Tips for Telehealth

A Soul Awake Psychotherapy, LLC offers secure individual Telehealth sessions via Zoom, a HIPAA compliant video platform. Telehealth allows us to connect with convenient appointments from the comfort of your home while saving you time and hassle. Review the Telehealth tips below before your first session to set yourself up for success. Choose a quiet, private location that is free of distractions. To keep background noise to a minimum, close any doors and shut any windows.

Allow for plenty of light in the room. Try to position yourself so the light source is in front of or above you, and not directly behind you.

It is preferable that you use a password-protected laptop or desktop computer for your sessions. If you don’t have access to a computer, you may use your smartphone or tablet. (Note: to use a smartphone, you must first download Zoom — available for iOS and Android in the app store.)

Keep your phone (or backup communication device) nearby in case we get disconnected. Silence or disable incoming notifications.

Get a glass of water or cup of tea ready prior to our session. Bring any completed homework assignments, questions, and/or concerns from the previous session. Make sure you’re comfortable and have a box of tissues nearby.

Let your family, friends, roommates, or others know that you will be unavailable for the duration of our session. If you have children, make sure they have games / activities / resources to keep them occupied. If you have pets, cameos are welcome and encouraged!

Prior to each session, you will receive an email appointment reminder with a unique link to join the session. Sign on a few minutes early to test your settings.

Note: There may be a slight delay for me to join the session if I am finishing with a previous session. Please be patient and I’ll join shortly.

Troubleshooting

What should I do if I didn’t get the reminder with the link?
Contact me if you didn’t get the link so I can send it to you via email.

What can I do to improve the quality of the connection?
Use wired ethernet instead of Wifi whenever possible.
Test your connection speed by searching “internet speed test” on Google. Click the blue button that says “Run speed test.” If it is under 10 mbps and you are using Wifi, try using a wired internet connection or restart your router;
Close other programs. If you have several programs running in the background, closing them will almost certainly improve your connection.

What should I do if our session gets disconnected?
Close and restart Zoom. Enter the unique link to rejoin the session. If you are still unable to connect, I will call you to resume.
