I’ve been paying closer attention to this theme recently, considering what it would look like for me to soothe myself: in this moment, this day, this month?
Self-soothing can take many forms and is distinct from self-care. Self-care asks, “What can I do for me?” Self-soothing asks, “What needs healing?”
I’ve learned that one of the greatest gifts I can give myself is paying attention to the vacancies, the longings, the letdowns, the fears, the sadness, the shame, and challenging myself to tend to their wounds.
